One California license, every California workplace

A California private investigator license is issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and is valid statewide. Kathie Allen (PI 27033) conducts workplace investigations for employers anywhere in California, including regions where Allen Morris Investigations does not have a dedicated local page.

Remote and Travel Engagements

How remote and travel engagements work

  • Witness interviews by secure video, scheduled around shifts and work locations
  • Documents and electronic evidence collected through secure transfer
  • In person interviews when the matter calls for them, with travel quoted in advance
  • A written report with factual findings on each allegation, delivered electronically

Video interviews allow employers with offices in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento, Fresno, or San Diego to obtain a timely, independent investigation without waiting for an investigator to be available locally.

California Law

What California requires of a workplace investigation

Under the Fair Employment and Housing Act, California employers must take all reasonable steps necessary to prevent discrimination and harassment, and California regulations call for a fair, timely, and thorough investigation of complaints (California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 11023). An outside workplace investigation must be performed by a licensed private investigator or by an attorney acting in the course of legal practice (Business and Professions Code section 7522). Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from California employers

Do you conduct investigations in San Francisco and Northern California?

Yes. Most Northern California investigations are conducted by secure video, with in person interviews scheduled when the matter calls for them.

Are video interviews effective?

Video interviews follow the same structured method as in person interviews. The investigator confirms that the witness can speak privately, observes demeanor on camera, and documents the interview the same way. In person interviews remain available when credibility or sensitivity calls for them.

How long does an investigation take?

Most investigations take two to six weeks, depending on the number of allegations, the number of witnesses, and how quickly documents are available.
